What Materials Are Placed in Reserve?
- Books required as essential Unit resources, arranged in call number
order.
- Some (not all) Unit readers, which we call Unit folders.
If your Unit reader is not on the shelves in Reserve, check e-Reserve for online documents, which include readings, lecture and tutorial notes or other material
provided by teaching staff. Some Unit folders are kept in course number order on the shelves
in Reserve. Past Exam papers are also
available online.
- Private copies, loaned to the Library by teaching staff, are kept behind the
Reserve counter and must be borrowed with your campus card.
- Audio Visual materials (mostly videos and DVDs) are kept on the A/V shelves in Reserve in call number order. Videos and DVDs are not available for overnight loan.
Please note: Not all items on course reading lists are in Reserve. Many titles on reading lists are 7 Day Loan items which are shelved on the normal library shelves.
Borrowing Items From Reserve
You may normally borrow two items at a time from Reserve, for 3 hours, however, you may only borrow one video or DVD at a time for use in Reserve, or for group viewing on Level 3 of the Library.
Items borrowed from Reserve may be taken out of the Library. Remember to return them within 3 hours, and you must return them to the Reserve Returns chute inside the Library. Exceptions are any Private Copy items, serials, reference books and items from the Closed Access collection, which, if held in Reserve, do NOT leave the building.
3 hours before the Library closes, you may borrow 2 items as Overnight
Loans. Overnight Loans are due back at 9.05 am on the next working day. Reserve items returned when the Library is open MUST be returned to the
Reserve Returns chute at the entrance to Reserve.
Overnight Loans returned after closing may be placed in the appropriate
after hours returns chute outside the Library.
Videos, DVDs and material designated as "Private Copies" (lecturer’s personal items temporarily on loan to the Library) may not be borrowed overnight.
Be sure to return Reserve items on time. Late returns to Reserve are fined at $2 per hour, or part thereof.
Other Reserve Facilities
Photocopying
3 photocopiers are available in Reserve. Alternatively, you may borrow items from Reserve and take them to the main photocopy room on Level 3. Remember to return them to Reserve. Top
Video/DVD Booths
These booths are provided for viewing Reserve videos/DVDs only. Only one video/DVD can be used at a time.
Viewing Electronic Documents
When using e-Reserve to access journal articles, links may go directly to the electronic article or to a database.
For articles not on a fulltext database the link 'View Document' is displayed and when selected the fulltext of the article will open.
For articles on a full text database, the link "Find Journal" will be displayed. When "Find Journal" is selected, a new window will open that either goes directly to the article or that displays results from Journal Finder, which will include a link to the electronic journal itself.
To search for the article use the search functions of the database that hosts the electronic journal.
The link to e-Reserve will remain open on the task bar to ascertain the citation details.
