Find a Journal
You will usually use Journal
Finder after you have a journal
name from your notes or have searched a subject database, and found a
citation of interest.
Journal Finder will allow you to check whether the Library holds a print
and/or electronic subscription for a specific journal title and thus allow
you to retrieve the full text of the article.
1. From the Library Homepage select
Journal Finder
2. Type the name of the journal required eg. Current genetics
3. Find Journals!
If the Library holds a subscription to this journal, either in print
or electronically it will be displayed
In this example, the journal Current genetics is available in both electronic format (1996 onwards) and older copies in print from Vol. 8 1984, at the call number QH426.C87, in the Main Collection.
4. If the date of the article is within the time period for the print (Holdings), locate the journal on the Library shelves at the call number, find the year and volume and then the page number at which the article begins. Photocopy the article.
5. If the date of the journal article is 1996 or later, click Electronic journal. This will take you to the database where that journal title's contents are available in full text. Some databases will link directly to the required journal title and display the volumes available.
6. Other databases will display a search box.
Search this by either entering the author's name, or the article title,
or both in the search boxes.
If only one search box is provided, separate the author's surname from
the title with and eg karpin and intimate strangers
The article should display and be available in full text in html or PDF
format for printing.
